The film Human Forever gives a voice to people with dementia

Recently, the film Human Forever premiered around dementia. Meanwhile, the documentary is going global and has won awards at international film festivals.

The story behind Human Forever

The film Human Forever by care innovator Teun Toebes and filmmaker Jonathan de Jong is about people with dementia, how we treat them and how things can be done better. The film gives a completely new perspective on our future.

Teun is 24, in perfect health and lives with people with dementia in the closed ward of a nursing home. Why? Teun is 24 now, but not all his life... Now, what Teun wants, what he feels and what he thinks is still being listened to. Now he is still free to be who he is and go where he wants, but the chances of this not being the case in the future are 1 in 5. That is why he now sets out to find answers for later.

Teun, on a trip around the world with his good friend and filmmaker Jonathan de Jong, explores how dementia is dealt with in other countries and what we can learn from each other to make the future more beautiful and inclusive.

Dementia is one of the challenges of our time

24-year-old humanitarian activist Teun Toebes has a mission: to improve the quality of life of people living with dementia. He has been living in the closed ward of a nursing home for years when he decides to take this mission to the next level. In an adventurous three-year journey across four continents and through 11 countries, Teun takes you on a disarming and impressive quest around the world in which he searches for answers for the future.

The documentary by filmmaker Jonathan de Jong and Teun Toebes was made independently, with support from the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, ActiZ, PGGM, Zorgverzekeraars Nederland, Alzheimer Nederland, Vilans and V&VN.
